credit crunch xmas...

So as some of you might know we have had some rather extravagant Xmas's in this family, a couple of years ago we could barely see the Xmas tree.

This year we are going budget and here is a picture of all our gifts rapped up in newspapers and string.

our birthday girl

20th of December is Florence's birthday and I'm afraid we confirmed all theory's and got distracted by Xmas. We completely forgot her birthday!!! It was Israel who remembered and luckily we had already bought the gift. This year we bought her a tin tea set which is totally gorgeous and out of guilt we gave her one of Xmas gifts which was the crib Steve made for her. Well she got to playing straight away and is loving playing tea parties.....thank goodness we are replacing the carpet soon she is making quite a mess.

florence singing....

pottery delights...

We are very fortunate to live in a special village and even luckier to have creative friends and neighbours. Just down the road live a family who have a talent for pottery and painting . This weekend they had an open day and i decided i would tempt myself and go along. It was hard not to fall in love with it all and i did try to convince Steve that we really needed this bowl that was larger than our sink. I managed to show some restraint and stick with a jug and pot for my tea bags. I have to say i take great pleasure at looking at them , i just wish the kitchen could match the same chic style.

An octopus are you crazy....

I have decided to change my religion......i now believe in reincarnation.....i don't actually know which religion that would be but it works for me right now because i have decided to become an octopus......ok yes i may have completely lost my marbles but think of the possibilities i could make at least four projects at the same time and that has got to be a good thing. I find it so frustrating when i am inspired cos i just want to do all of at the same time and NOW!!! yes i agree this is major character floor and I'm working on it.....well i would if i could stop sewing for five minutes. So if anyone has any ideas of how i can speed this reincarnation process up i would very much appreciate it....

success..

So my first stall went very well, i sold lots of aprons so they are definatly a winner and tea cosy's. i did sell one cushion and had lots of complements. I was commissioned to make three items by Christmas. I am really pleased but of coarse would have liked to come home empty handed. The whole thing was a real learning curve for me and it helped me see what are the best sellers.

completly adorable

just once in a while you see something that is completely perfect and this has to be one of those things, the bed is made by Steve(husband) and the rest by me. This cot is for Florence x mas present, well OK its sort of for me too....

Sunday, 7 December 2008

Just when i thought i had finished all my projects for next Weeks sale i stumbled across this idea. I met a lady in my favourite fabric shop who inspired me..This is a pvc coated fabric and is a very simple style.....so i guess its more sewing for me.

I saw this in softie central and fell in love with it. I have made it my own and am really pleased with it. It could do with some internal support which i will add later. And yes abigail that is your package in the backround.....ready to send tommorow.....

" ok ok ok " you twisted my arm! i know you just can't wait so i will show you one thing from my new collection. This is a happy moment for me because i have been trying out different bag styles for a while and this one i am pleased with. This one is a little evening bag just big enough for essentials..

Jack Frost

I don't think i have ever noticed or paid much attention to the marks left by Jack Frost before. Today when we got in the car to leave i was impressed by the front of our car.It was so beautiful and how amazing that this is created just for no reason but is a gift for our eyes.

festive shrine..

So here we are... this is me excepting we might be in this house for Xmas. I have decided we are not having a tree this year because there just isn't the space but we have a festive shrine instead. I have to say i rather like it. It is certainly easy to maintain and very pretty to look at. It is also nice to benefit from home made things which i am quite proud of.

The flower is going to be the tree substitute. Hopefuly the kids won't be scarred for life!!!!

ive got a secret......

I remember a book i used to read as a child about a girl who has a secret and won't tell...thats how i feel at the moment about all the stuff i'm preparing for my sale. All the stuff is being carefully stored in bags in my room waiting for the big day..i guess its the childish need in me to say "ta-da!!" and wait for the oohs and ahhs..so I'm afraid my posts are going to be a little boring. I know there is nothing worse than posts without pictures so i will try and find other things to show you instead.

door stops

I am doing my very first sale and display of my stuff in a few weeks and this is something I'm going to sell. They are partly full of sand and the rest stuffing with a lovely bright name tag for a handle...

Tuesday, 25 November 2008

I had a revelation recently..well maybe that's a bit dramatic but it was definitely a good idea. I always find it difficult to decide to go for new or old when it comes to clothes for the kids especially when old doesn't always mean cheap..so i was very excited the other day when i realised it doesn't matter because when they grow out of them i can recycle them into new things like teddies or blankets..this gave me an excuse to get Flo a jumper i really like and i just can't enough of this one. All thes tones are just to good to resisit...

Finally!!!

So as you can imagine hand sewing nearly two metres of fabric on two sides and the rest is a little tiresome so its a big relief to be able to fast track with a sewing machine..I have finally completed my first x mas project and now I'm on a roll. Now all i need is to fill all these pockets up without the babies catching on and pinching the lot....should be fun..

Hallelujah.....

Yes the day finally arrived last week when i picked up my first, very own, sewing machine. Its a second hand Jenome 6500, but its just 4 years old and works like a dream.

this sewing machine has more stitches than i have ideas ( yeah right!!). But as you can can imagine I'm a happy bunny.

A nice spread for a nice spread....

So here is my quilted table run completed . I would say it is great for hot casseroles and saucepans but i will make a thinner one for lighter things...

a cosy for a pot....

I have dear friend who bought herself a tea pot recently. I couldn't help notice it was missing a crucial friend. A tea cosy!! never fear Mrs maker is here!!!!!!! i got to work immediately and plotted a plan. What a surprise felt came to my aid yet again. I first made one for myself to perfect the pattern and i just wanted one. I also made it two different colours either side. I am glad to say the lady in question was as pleased to receive it as i was to make it, so another job well done for Mrs maker.........

A nice spread..

So i was checking out the Purl Bee blog and was inspired to make a table run that will protect the table from heat. I "ummed and ahhhed" over the choice of fabric and in the end went for something that will hide tomato sauce well as that seems to be the biggest trouble maker for stains. I have used 2ounce wadding and am adding my own little touch too. I also plan on doing a Xmas themed table runner and have had a brain wave about that too......watch this space for that one.

a new boy..

One of my friends has just popped out a lovely boy and while he was tucked up nicely in her belly i created a softie for him and surprisingly it worked out. He is called Sid and is made out of Amy Butler fabric....

festive projects

I try to have large projects on the go at the same time as doing my daily ones that keep me happy. My on going one lately has been for Xmas. It is a huge advent calender which will have enough in each pocket for everyone. So that is seven sweets each day. This a rather large advent and I'm hoping we will find a space big enough in December. The pockets are all made out of felt which is as all ways lovely to use. Now i have to get cracking to finish it.......thats the tough part.

what a talent..

there aren't many days when i appreciate Steve's (husband) love for tools. they just don't do anything for me but i sure do appreciate them when they help me achieve my creative project's. So i got this idea from the Martha Stewart site and they turned out really great. We are still enjoying them the next day and as many as i can make them go for. HALLOWEEN was a success and it was great to have a party with friends and enjoy watching the kids act horrific (which lets face it isn't that unusual) The kids seem to get just as excited about it this year as Xmas. Now we are all set for the Xmas preparation's .........bring it on!!!!!

success...

So i think i finally cracked it..after several attempts i decided to design my own pattern instead of copying and it worked really well..i think!! these are both presents for Xmas for two little girls..

defeated by softies..

Well I'm ashamed to admit it i am defeated by these softies teddies. I have made several attempts to make them and if you don't know what they are look at http://www.softiescentral.com/ my 1st attempt i completely forgot to put ears on so he looked pretty bad. we call him phys co Sid. My second attempt was OK until i filled her and she was just too big so i took out the the stuffing in her tummy and we call her flat Sam! last night was attempt 3.... well it was all looking pretty hopeful until she was stuffed and her head was too big and kept flopping back. ggrrrr this is really starting to annoy me now...also the fabric is a loose weave and seems to pull easily....when you look at these softies you would think they are easy but this is JUST NOT TRUE.......after i have pulled myself together i will of coarse be trying number 5 "what happened to number 4 " you say..oh don't get me started..it was all going pretty well until i dyed it AS INSTRUCTED ON WEB SITE....and it ruined it..booo hoo....i know i should really lay it to rest but i just can't i have the bug and that's that...they all look pretty sad don't they? actually i think they look like one of those criminal line ups which is quite funny.....did you see one of these at the bank robbery last night??? that E.T looking girl looks pretty suspicious...

you can say that again......
