New year

So for a change i have something less Christmas to show you...I have a new years eve party to go to tonight and it's fancy dress. I am Cruella De vil. I hope by this outfit it is obvious. I also have a wig to match and long sleeve gloves and one of those long cigarette's.

I have also been making a special dessert for the party. They are fruit tart's on real custard's. I have never made them before and they a really easy except for the assembling. It is quite tricky to get them looking very smart but a good dose of icing suger does the trick.

Ra Ra Ra..is the theme of this apron.....what a flowery, beauty it is. A lady asked me to make it for her daughter whom she never aloud to wear pink...i guess she is getting her own back now eh?

I know that there is an overdose of Xmas scene's in the blog world but i wanted to show you my favourite's. My boy's first ever Xmas play..and the little lady joined in too.
Some really tasteful decoration's from supermarket's. They are really making the effort this year. They look like they have come straight from a Swedish log cabin.

Sometimes it is nice to go the extra mile for a good friend. I wanted to make a thank you card for my dear friend Caroline. But I don't really care for buying card's so i decided to sew one instead.

It isn't exactly complicated but very effective. It is also something nice to keep.
I used chain stitch for the message inside.

fresh inspiration

It seems to be a long while since i did some sewing just for me and i am so glad i started again. I recently bought a second hand Victorian style nightgown for Florence. She loves wearing it so much i thought i would try to copy it for her. I had some gorgeous fabric I ordered a while ago from House of Holland . The fabric is nothing like a Victorian fabric but still gorgeous.

I also made her a tunic top from the same pattern which is perfect for all the jumping around she does...lots of flexibility.

WARNING::: beautiful clothes will not necessarily change mischievous children

finally gave in

For a very long while people have suggested that i make bunting....i have not been inspired to make bunting at all. It seems like a very boring job to do.

But i finally gave in because i really fancied some Xmas bunting in the house. I had a load of Xmas fabric lying around that just did the job. I took me about an hour and i am so pleased with it. Its really homely and very festive....now I'm just dying to get started on some more Xmas decoration's

the day after....

I have been hesitant to write this post......

yesterday was the long awaited xmas fair in torquay and something whichi have been gearing up for, for a while now.
The evening was a preview for guests that turned out to be mainly family friends of the charity organisers. All the stall holders were told that a wealthy selection had been invited and so to stock up. Well i think these wealthy people were wealthy because they didn't like spending money.....I didn't do to badly on the evening, alot better than others who sold nothing.
But we all had high expectation for the following day which was open to the public and had apparently been well advertised. I made even less on the following day and we were hanging around for a great deal of the time. It makes me so sad to think of all that talent in that place that was going un-noticed. Thankfully i did make some money but it was nothing in comparison to what i laid out for this event.
One thing is for sure, i met some lovely people and in typical british fashion we made the best of a bad situation. I also learnt a great deal about what makes a good fair and how to choose selling avenue's wisely.
Now i have the task of looking after sick children whilst feeling pretty crap myself....oh thats enough self pity...life goes on.

I'm So excited

So I only have to wait two more day's and the Xmas fair begins. I have just finished my first mock up of the stall. I am pretty pleased with the result, It has all tied in together well using the Farrell and ball sage green. All I am worried about is having enough space. The table I use their will be smaller which should make it all look a bit more spacious. I have got to get some photo's printed off for a photo album I will display for people to browse and place orders. I have also got to finish some more peg bag's and then i think it's all done.......sooo excited

I am really pleased with this dress and I think that putting the owl at the top was a good idea. This linen has been especially difficult to work with and has frayed very easily, it is beautiful quality but shrinks a great deal. I think i need to find a natural fabric that is a bit more predictable.
I am also particularly pleased with the hat stand it is hanging on. It was a bargain from the range....great place...

What a Little find I bought today and it shows off the girl's dresses perfectly. Although I am thinking they need a little bit of an extra touch on the top front. Back to the drawing board....

so far..

I have recently been making kitchen sets which include two hand towels and a bread bag. They are both tucked into a nifty bag with the same fabric.

I think they make a lovely Xmas gifts, lets hope others do too.

These sets also match the apron's I have made.

It is amazing how consuming all this planning ahead is. I am rather anxious that I won't have enough for the Xmas craft fair. It will be a little embarrassing if I sell out on the first night but I guess that will be better than having it all left over...

So this past week was out ten year anniversary and Steve was kind enough to buy me a Cath Kidston bag while we were in London. Here she is in all her glory and next to her a little surprise for someone else.....humm who could it be for???

10years...

guess where we have been???

Steve is wondering how long until we get some Starbucks coffee..

Steve is wondering if he will be the only man at the stitching and knitting show in Alexandra palace

Steve is wondering how much I will spend in Cath Kidston.....

Steve is glad we are already married so I don't need to buy this 5 grand cake.....gulp!!

Steve and I both agree that being married ten years and spending time alone in London is a very good idea even if you have a view of a toilet.....

doing the right thing...

It has been an unspoken plan for me to eliminate as much use of plastic from the house as i can over the past year. Some things have been a little easier than others. But one idea i have noticed many times on Soulemama blog is how she uses jam jars to replace plastic containers for picnics. I thought i would give it a go on our latest sploot to Sidmouth, a lovely local sea side town (with some very yummy shops).

It was a real success but most of all great to know we weren't creating any waste..

Here is a pic of my finished skirts. On the whole I am pleased with them although i am a little concerned the owls are too big. I think i will make them smaller next time. You might just be able to make out my labels on the top..I am very proud of those..

I went to a coarse recently for my overlocker and i learnt how to do a rolled edge....there is a small risk i will use it on everything from now on.

Tuesday, 15 September 2009

I have been playing around with all sorts of idea's for the kid's clothes i am going to make for next year. I have decided on this theme of plain back round and appliqued pictures on top.
It is a really good way of getting the fabrics and colours i love onto the clothes without scaring off the buyers. I will show you the finished skirts next post.
