at last

I have a bit of strange and frustrating time the last few weeks. I have been making all sorts and enjoying what I make but have had this niggling feeling that there was something else. I really had a Strong desire to create something more simple and natural. I wanted to create things out of natural linens and tone my colour scheme down quite a bit. I have realised it is a lot harder to do that than I first imagined. I had got the stage where I thought maybe I needed a break from sewing to wait for inspiration so I began cleaning up the sewing room which is a huge job and clear my mind for a bit.

Yesterday I was speaking to Abi (sister) and she suggested something and as she did it all fell into place. I am no artist and really struggle with drawing but I am OK with comic pieces so I suddenly realised how I could make each piece of clothing unique.

I am so pleased with the result and I am really excited about where I am going from here....

I am currently signed up for two Christmas Fair's In November and I am cracking on with my new children's clothes. I have tried really hard to stick to a colour theme but It Is proving harder than I imagined. I wanted to tie In my clothes to housewares as well so the stall's have a co-ordinated theme. I decided to go for the ever popular nautical colours as that really seems to be what people want right now. I am finding though that I am better at matching up colours that I am naturally drawn to. So at least I have a couple of months to work on It all and I am hoping It will all come together by then.

This weekend has been a complete whirlwind for me. Saturday night I went down to Cowslip for an evening with Amy Butler..Oh my gosh what a treat, she was so lovely. She was calm and Serene and I found it all so inspiring. Sunday morning I was back in the car down to cowslip for a sewing coarse with Amy making cushions. I met some fab people and i can really say I was in my element. We all ate lunch together in the cafe and drooled over Amy and her very dishy husband.

it's the little things

When you are stuck in a house for longer than is humane like me it's the little things that cheer you up. Like this little corner of my home which is always cluttered up with bags. Now it has a fresh new look and very nautical too....i am rather enjoying the toned down look..

Patriotic phase...

This has got to be my favourite cushion right now. It has most of the fabric's I really loved in it. All the fabric I used were from my rather large scrap bag. It was alot of fun making things out of a scrap bag because using it forced me to be flexable and creative.

This range of fabric's is going to be the colour scheme from my next selection of kids clothes. I am so excited about getting stuck into making them but I am useing alot of self control to wait for a while to make sure I get them just right.

365 days ago was probably the lowest point in my life that I remember. Today was very significant for me because I ran a stall In my own village and braved rejection and insecurities.

The day was a huge success and I made new contacts and had great feedback.

But today is all about those of you who have been there for me this past year listening to my thoughts and feeling's. Encouraging me and being supportive. Thank you Sam, Steve Mum, Sophie, Abigail, Sigi, Boo ,Annemarie, Caraline,Tara and others that may have slipped my mind. Thanks for phoning, visiting and being constant. Can't do without you...Martha x
